  1. Hi Sharmi. This picture takes me back to Orissa when I travelled with Karen from Calcutta to Puri in September 2001. It was perhaps even more lush! Then we stopped for twenty minutes over a village and saw everyone from the shopkeeper to the school teacher passing beneath us. Finally by taxi from Bubuneshwar to Puri – the amazing life of the rural road. I have to explain to my friends in Scotland that a road in rural India is only to a small extent to do with vehicles travelling once we take account of the corn being dried by the women in their glorious sarees , the long haired Holy men wandering, the curly tailed dogs…and of course not to forget the random cows which the cars all have to stop for. The concept of road is stretched far beyonf meaning!!! Nice to see your post and be reminded of these things… Best wishes john http://johndwmacdonald.com

    • Indian roads truly reflect Indian society, you will see all type of things starting from cows to meticulously dressed office executives. I too love the rural roads, especially the dust roads, they create a haunting picture in mind!
