Kolkata can be a prime example of human greed and its really lethal consequences. Just imagine three hundred or so years ago when Job Charnock gave life to this metro it was built on villages, where tigers roamed. Even one hundred years ago people could hear jackals and foxes from their homes that were not very outskirt of the metro. Ganges was cleaner, the metro was filled with ponds, lakes and well… swamps too!
Then human beings started their action. With huge number of refugees entering from neighboring countries land became scarce and the government was too busy looting, filling up their pockets so they failed to notice the monstrous killing of trees, ponds, lakes.
Now, everyone who lives near a pond or lake is mentally prepared that sooner or later some shark will pay the vultures a lofty amount of money and the pond will disappear like it was…
